Ingredients
1 ½ c. powdered sugar
1 c. margarine or butter, softened
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
½ tsp. almost extract
2 ½ c. all-purpose or whole wheat flour *
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Sprinkles or sugar to decorate
Hanukkah cookie cutters:
Menorah
Dreidel
Star
* If using self-rising flour, omit baking soda and cream of tartar
Directions
Mix powdered sugar, margarine, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Mix in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight. Heat oven to 375°. Divide dough into halves. Roll each half 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut into star, dreidel or menorah shapes. Sprinkle with granulated sugar or sprinkles. Place on lightly greased sheet. Bake until edges are light brown, 7 to 8 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen (2 inch) cookies. Very light and delicious!!
